Do you ever have one of those days ..... the one where you love your children so much that your heart just seems to be overflowing with emotion?
Every time I hear a certain song on the radio I feel that way. I love them fiercely. I love them so much it hurts and tears start to spill over. I love them so much that the thought of them ever being hurt again infuriates me. But I'm helpless. Helpless to stop my love, helpless to keep them from experiencing pain.
Each one of my 6 children is so unique and so special. Each one has the ability to make me smile or make me cry in frustration. Each one can make me feel so great with just one word ..... or break my heart with another.
Every mother can say that .... that's part of a life of raising children.
Today is one of those days. I love them so much that it hurts. I wish I could protect them from whatever life will dish out. But I can't. And I shouldn't. Not if I want them to keep growing. And I do.
So today I leave them with a copy of the song that helps me to remember how very much I love them. It's what I want them to know .... the words I would say if I had them.
I love you, Crew.
The Words I Would Say
Artist: Sidewalk Prophets
Album: These Simple Truths
Three in the morning, and I'm still awake
So I picked up a pen and a page
And I started writing just what I'd say
If we were face to face
I'd tell you just what you mean to me
Tell you these simple truths
Chorus
Be strong in the Lord
And never give up hope
You're gonna do great things
I already know
God's got His hand on You
So don't live life in fear
Forgive and forget
But don't forget why you're here
Take your time and pray
These are the words I would say
Last time we spoke you said you were hurting
And I felt your pain in my heart
I want to tell you that I keep on praying
Love will find you where you are
I know 'cause I've already been there
So please hear these simple truths
Chorus
Say from one simple life to another
I will say come find peace in the Father
Be strong in the Lord
And never give up hope
You're gonna do great things
I already know
God's got His hand on You
So don't live life in fear
Forgive and forget
But don't forget why you're here
Take your time and pray
And thank God for each day
His love will find a way
These are the words I would say

These feelings never go away, no matter how old your children become, they are still your children.Sometimes I love my daughter so much that it brings tears to my eyes. It would be nice to totally protect them, but as you said, they will not grow and become who God wants them to be IF they never have any pain or trials. Understanding your mother's heart and telling you as your mother will tell you, that feeling does not change no matter how much time goes by. Blessings on your week end.
love this song...have the words on our refrigerator. susan
awwww. your heart overfloweth. i feel that sometimes, too.
i don't think it's unusual either to be really emotional over your children when you've experienced great loss.
i've been away for awhile and i need to catch up with you because i see a certain someone met your mom!!? where have i been buried!!??
gotta go! i need to read!
Janine - I love your words so much! I feel the same way, but somehow with ONLY adult sons now - I know that they don't GET IT! Their life has moved on to another woman - which is how it should be - but I don't think they have any idea how fiercely I still love them, or how hard it is to let go of them - and know that you are not their priority any more! Oh - and by the way - you love your Grandchildren with that same kind of love!!!! Love, Malinn
Good evening my darling daughter.
And it NEVER goes away. No matter what.
