..... but in spite of that, I find that I am getting a little excited about this trip, in spite of myself!
I have borrowed the appropriate ski clothing so I think I'm basically ready.
We will be skiing in Keystone. We will also be "tubing" in Keystone. And maybe even dog sledding in Keystone (if a certain son has his way).
I'm not even worried about the long car trip .... other than hoping that my hip doesn't act up too much. It definitely does not like long trips.
I'm really looking forward to spending the time with the kids (Daughter #3 is coming!) and with C and his girls.
I'm not sure how much time we'll spend together during the days, since they all ski and I'll be on the bunny slopes ..... or sitting next to a warm fire and drinking something warm.
But I'm hoping that I pick it up easily and enjoy it (I hope this for D3, also). The son who's going thinks that he'll be hitting the blacks as soon as his lesson is over.
What. Ev. Er.
I'm less than thrilled about having to get on a ski lift. I'm not one to trust heavy metal chairs (or cable cars) that hang from a wire.
Not at all.
I wonder how badly it hurts if you fall into the snow from one of those suckers?
Everyone keeps telling me that it's a different "cold" up there. It won't feel as cold as it does here.
Again ...... what. ev. er.
That's like saying ..... "But it's a DRY heat." Give me a break.
Once it hits one hundred degrees .... hot is hot!!
And it would seem to follow, that once it hits 9 degrees (which I heard it did the other day) .....
cold is cold!!!
I'll let you know.
Happy Monday, Peeps.

Well Janine, in my VAST Colorado ski experience - OK that one time I went with the youth group as a youth about 25 years ago - it WAS a different cold. Mind you, a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there because I am also a cold weather wienie who has whined her way through this winter. And yeah, I'm with you on the lifts. Gives me sweaty palms remembering them. Just don't have a Mr. Bean moment getting off!
:) Ann
You are a very coordinated, athletic person who will handle it all with ease and grace! I know you will enjoy it but definitely go with a private lesson NOT a group lesson! It is worth the $.
And in my opinion, goggles are a must!
It's beautiful in the mountains with the snow. You'll warm up as you ski. Enjoy the lift rides. They are so quiet and peaceful. If you could handle roller coasters at Mickey's you'll have no problem with the lifts. I predict You'll love the experience.
Good evening my darling daughter. First thing I'd do...check out the "lodge" and the fireplace! That's where I'd plunk my behind for the duration. Stay away from the hills. And especially the trees. Just sayin'. Hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps. Sounds like the way to go!
Whichever way you go, have fun!!
I love you tremendously.
ok the lift should not such a big deal. i have a major fear of heights and never felt that on a ski lift. not even the big one at snowbird. i was always much more concerned about falling on my but while getting off the lift and the scenario that developed from there.
This post made me giggle because it reminded of a time I went skiing with our Single's Group at church. I had minimal experience on skis. George and I were not dating yet, but I was on the lift with him. I am deathly afraid of heights, but made it up the slope on the ski lift (white knuckles all the way). When we got to the top and had to "gracefully" slide off the lift, we both fell flat on our faces. We had to drag ourselves, skis still on our feet, as quickly as we could to get out of the way of the next skiers coming off the lift. It was hilarious!!! Thanks for helping me remember a sweet, funny memory!
Have fun!
a. you seem to come by your dislike of cold genetically.
b. enjoy the view from the lift, and from the top of the mountain. Keystone (all of the mts of colorado really) is beautiful. and some of the best (and easiest) skiing is up high. get a map and keep it with you.
c. remember...green is good. black diamonds, not so much.
d. relax and let go. just not with your skis pointed straight down hill.
I had the same experience getting off the ski lift. And everyone was yelling at me "Get out of the way" and I am thinking - I am trying. It is a beautiful place and experience, but I agree I would not like to live there in the winter. Have a great time and safe travel

They're right about the cold being "different". You won't get cold if you're skiing. I did fine with the group lesson, in fact if you learn quickly, you'll do better in a group because the instructor is more likely to tell you to "go ski" if you get the hang of it right away. The lift is fun, you won't fall out! Have a great time!
