Today is Son #2's 20th birthday. He is no longer a teenager.
He has a good job and his own apartment.
He may not be living the life that I had hoped he'd live .... but he's living the life he wants to live. And that's what matters.
Son #2 has always, ALWAYS, marched to the beat of a different drummer.
And while sometimes that left me in frustrated tears, today it makes me proud of him. And happy for him.
He has changed so much in the last 4 1/2 years.
Even when he pretends to be asleep on a vacation excursion:
Even when he refuses to smile in a picture .... even for his poor widowed mother:
Or tries to act too cool to be a member of our family:
Even, and especially, all of those times .... I love him immensely.
He reminds me of Jim in many ways.
He is his own person.
He has a huge heart.
Very huge.
He will one day be one of the best fathers I've ever known.
And I know for certain, that even when he doesn't agree with me, he will fight his hardest to protect me, and will never side with someone who is against me.
I love this son.
So much more than words can convey.
And I thank God for him every day.
Things have rarely been easy for this son.
This son has rarely been easy for me.
But he's fought hard for what he wants.
And he's fought hard for who he loves.
I am prouder than I can say to call him "my son".
He's one of the most interesting people I know.
And I was blessed that God lent him to us for 19 years.
And will never feel anything less than blessed to be called his mother.
I love you, Son #2. More than you know.
More than you can understand.
Until you have your own child some day.
You have blessed me more than you will ever know.
Happy 20th birthday.
I love you.
Forever.
P.S. The contest is still on for the Camp Widow registration prize. I am leaving it open until some time on Tuesday, so please keep posting your comments if you'd like to win!
Good luck!!!

Yes it is, that's why I wrote about it in the post. And said that I'm proud of him for doing what he wants, for following his own "beat". He's great!! :)
Happy Birthday P! Sis...you have done a great job with ALL of your beautiful kids....both as a married mother and a widowed mother. You always do your best and you always put them first....and I know how very much you love them.
