I ran away....

.... well, sort of. I'm at the beach for a couple of days. An unexpected trip tonight, but I figured it was needed. There's not a consistent Internet connection so I'm not sure when I'll post again. But let me leave you with a question -- stop groaning!!
Last night I had a strange dream: I was in a small boat (kyak or a row boat) out in the middle of the ocean... alone. Suddenly a huge blue whale ( the type, not the color) surfaced next to me. I was in awe of him and couldn't believe it. And then another one surfaced, and then another and another --- until suddenly there seemed to be almost 20 whales (give or take - could've been a lot more) surrounding me. I started to feel a little scared and wondered if I should be frightened of them or not -- they were enormous. I don't remember anything after that.
So here's my question: What, if anything, do you think that dream "meant"?
Discuss.

You may think I'm crazy but I think it means you need to go to Australia :) That sounds almost like the actual experience I had in Platypus Bay off Fraser Island - except they were humpbacks and I was not in a kayak... but the whales totally surround the boat and come up & play and it's amazing. And another thing is that the same dive boat operator that I went out with to dive with sharks is just heading into minke whale season where you can dive with or snorkel with dwarf minke whales. You hold onto this rope and they actually are very curious and come right up to you. It's the only place on the world where you can do this because other countries have banned it but Australia allows it because they approach you. http://www.marineencounters.com.au/This is run by the guy (John Rumney) we may be going into business with and working with on the Solomon Island documentary etc. He was in the last doco (Expedition Shark).

I'll see if I come up with another more profound meaning but I thought I'd pass that along :)

J your dream could mean no matter how big the threat-crisis-or the problem is you will look it straight in the eye and decide what to do with it.
What is any bigger than a whale or a herd of them? You didnd run from them. God bless you and yours.

here is an interesting interpretation of dreams about whales "For most people, dreaming about whales is a pleasant experience. These huge water dwelling mammals may be symbolic of the connection that exists between the unconscious and conscious mind. They may represent the dreamer's level of awareness, perceptiveness, and intuition. Some think that they represent our emotional power or are messengers from the spiritual realms. If the ocean waters were turbulent, and the whale in your dream was unpredictable or on the attack, considers the emotional environment in your every day life. Under such unpleasant dream circumstances, these large animals may represent overwhelming emotional or psychological issue and problem." - the last part seems apropos though OTOH you said it was an awe-inspiring experience & you weren't sure whether to be scared or not?

Okay. I did some research. Hope it helps! Love and miss you!

Oar

If you handle or otherwise use oars in your dream you will experience disappointments and you may sacrifice your own desires to please others. To lose an oar shows you have not planned sufficiently and a broken oar denotes utter failure in your undertaking.

Ocean

If you dream you are standing on shore and watching the waves foam up as they break over the beach foretells that you will have some narrow escape from an accidental injury. If you are far out on the ocean and hear the waves as they lap against the hull of the ship, you will have setbacks in your business and a troubled domestic scene. To sail on a calm ocean is always a good omen for all concerned.

Orca

A whale of any sort in your dream is a sign of protection and help and if you see the flukes of his tail you will have much good luck. To dream of an orca, also known as a killer whale, shows the dreamer is not sure of the motives of his/her protector. The 'killer' whale then represents distrust and must be viewed in that light by the dreamer.

WHALES : The whale swims in the deep seas and so links to the unconscious mind. It can often link to feelings of overwhelming calmness. It breathes deeply and shows you are at one with your feelings. You feel calm and so are able to think rationally. You are not dominated by your immediate emotions.

Whales

For most people, dreaming about whales is a pleasant experience. These huge water dwelling mammals may be symbolic of the connection that exists between the unconscious and conscious mind. They may represent the dreamer's level of awareness, perceptiveness, and intuition. Some think that they represent our emotional power or are messengers from the spiritual realms. Under such unpleasant dream circumstances, these large animals may represent overwhelming emotional or psychological issue and problem.

Whale
This big creature is a splendid dream omen signifying protective influences around you. If you saw the flukes of its tail, freedom from worry will soon be yours.

Canoe
To see or sit in a canoe in your dream represents serenity, simplicity and independence. It is also a reflection of your emotional balance. You are moving ahead thanks to your own power and determination. (same for kayak)

Canoe

To paddle a canoe on a calm stream, denotes your perfect confidence in your own ability to conduct your business in a profitable way.

Wow by daughter #3's post it all sounds good. I was going to say it meant: you were really hungry for some fish. I know not profound at all. Hope you are enjoying the beach.
Love,
Julie

Okay, Daughter #3 did a lot of research that sounds really smart. My first thought was that whales are really big and could possibly be scary if you didn't know that they were coming or what their intentions are. Sitting alone in a boat of some sort in uncharted water could also be un-nerving. Kind of like your life, especially this May. You have a lot of events going on that you knew where coming but weren't sure how they were going to look or feel. Big things. Big events. Just sit still and let things happen. Don't feel like you have to pick up an oar and make any kind of progress. Just be. Life is going to keep coming and there will be a day when you will feel strong enough to paddle along with it. For now, I think it's perfectly all right to just let the stream carry you along with out you putting out a lot of effort.
I love you and I pray that God gives you gentle streams for a long while. No more crazy rapids.

Without reading any of the posts, my immediately feeling was one of peace and protection for you from these large, loving, graceful creatures. I love your dream. And you, of course!

The whales in your dream represent change, something your not used to being around. And yeah, there are many or them. My going to MMA, Spencer leaving, Whitney living on her own (sort of) and being alone with Conner from there on out. And I guess you don't know if you should be scared of them because some you think may benefit others, but maybe not you.
...yeah... I can be deep.

I like #3's research. I immediately thought it meant you were feeling "overwhelmed"...(gee, ya think?? LOL!)
But I would like to think (and will insist) that it means you want to come back to Alaska to see more whales. Great idea!! See ya...next week or so??
Enjoy the beach! (don't get those Coach sandals dirty though!!);P
Love you.

You sitting in your boat (your life) in the middle of the ocean (reflecting on your life) alone in the inmense blue ocean. I interpret the whales as many of your friends have: problems, obstacle, change, threats, big big challenges that could upset your little boat. It seems that your dream reflects your uncertainty with life: should I be scared? Will they hurt me? Will I survive? What will happen next? I don't know if I am way way off, but it seems to me that dreams are a way for us to deal with our emotions. Life is full of surprises, big blue whale surprises.

You'll be fine!

Good evening my darling daughter. Well, you know...I think son #2 has it pretty much figured out! What a smart guy!! I love you all very much. Take care and have a good time at the beach.

Hello, it's your long lost sister! I unlike K in AK think it means you want to stay away from whales and get away from the water so that leave IN. You come and see me!! Still hasn't happend yet! ;) JK I hope you have fun at the beach and K in AK is right, don't get those coach sandles dirty!

You are so loved by so many and the first one is God. He is right there with you in the boat. i agree with what someone said about all the events that are happening and they have over whelmed you and you more than have a right to be overwhelmed but just take them one at a time. He will see you through and you are surrounded by love and concern and you will be fine. Blessings....
