Bittersweet

This is Jim and Son #1, on the farm .... 1991.

I love it here with J & L. I love spending time with them and I love that they are a part of Jim. But it also makes me sad. J is spending a lot of time playing football and catch with the boys. It's great to watch them but it also hurts. Jim used to do that. He loved throwing the football with the boys.
This is one of those heart lows. My heart feels low. Hard to explain but maybe you get the picture.
Very, very bittersweet. Today I can not believe that he's not here.

But I will move ahead with the post. Or actually, backwards. Here are some pictures from yesterday:

This is Son #3, who begged me to take his picture here because the Oscar Meyer-mobile was in the parking lot behind him. Go. Figure.

And here he is being brave and asking the Oscar Meyer driver if he could please sit in the front seat so that I can take his picture (I urged him to ask). Mr. Oscar Meyer said no. Really, he actually told this cute-faced boy "no". He even told ME "no" when I asked. What?! Like he was going to hi-jack the bologna-mobile?!!
Again -- go figure.

Here's a balloon going over the back yard:

Here are Sons #1 & #3 in an English phone booth that, for some strange reason, is in Carlsbad:

Here's Son #3 next to a cool tree in said town:

Here's a shot of the tree, looking up. I'm not sure what type of tree it is, but it was interesting.

Daughter #2:

Son #3 and S. They made great sand castles:

My two mentally unbalanced younger sons, swimming in the freezing water. C'mon, you can tell it's cold from just looking!

Our group, plus the "boot".

So there you have it. That was yesterday. Today we've hung around the house and the pool. I'm not sure what's up for tomorrow. The kids and I will go to Disney Land one day this week.
I'd appreciate your prayers. I don't want to be sad here.
Sad in paradise.
Go figure.

I'm sorry that those moments sneak up on you and steal your joy.

My memories of the Southern California beaches are that the water is always cold, but the sun and sand make the beach warm. Couldn't believe how warm water could be when we first went to Galveston. (or how much tar is on the beach here--totally unlike S. Cal.)

I think the tree is a eucalyptus. Wendee??

You should go down to Old Town (I think that's what the area is called), sit at one of the outdoor restaurants, and have a margarita. I remember that as being relaxing.
(when is having a "rita" not relaxing? ) Take care. I'm praying that God is blessing you. Susan

Thanks for sharing the great photos and I will never eat another Oscar Meyer weiner! I'm just catching up on the blog and I have been to SD and love it there. Too bad it cost sooo much!
You have no choice but to use the wheelchair and go to the front of the lines. Disneyland is so spread out she couldn't do it any other way.
Enjoy your time with the family and I'm praying for you.
Love to all.

Thanks, Susan. And can you remind me again the name of the winery? I can't find that piece of paper.
Thanks for your prayers --- as always.

That's a Eucalyptus tree - from Australia!! Maybe its a sign you need to go there :) They're actually causing a lot of ecological problems in California but they're there to stay i think, like fire ants are here. The Oscar Weiner Mobile is way freaking cool!!! I actually have a graphic image of one on my Fish Wars blog! Isn't that funny, never seen a real one!! Coolio. So sorry you are feeling low. Try not to expect too much of yourself, those ups and downs are very normal... you're processing and healing. But I will pray for your spirits to be lifted :) Try jumping up and down like a kangaroo, or swinging, or spinning around in circles until your dizzy... seriously they work! Especially jumping :) OK I know I'm weird, but hey I'm serious!! Ask my kids! (not whether I'm weird, but whether jumping up and down makes you happy) Try it and report back! It must be with jubilation! And more than like 2-3 times. LIke 10-15. :)

Nat's right. The wheelchair option at Disney Parks is great. We have to go that route with Miles because otherwise he'll totally deplete his resources just walking around the park.

Just found my "souvenir wine glasses". (I know--you can tell my house is cluttered by the fact that I still have 15 year old souvenir wine glasses--or that I'm cheap, since they actually have no sentimental value to me) The town is Temecula. Two of the wineries we went to (15 years ago, but probably still around) were Callaway vineyards and Mount Palomar Winery. Enjoy! Susan

Now that you're OK with using K's boot at Disneyland I'm sure you'll have a great time cutting to the front of all those lines LOL! Hey, my daughter #3 saw your daughter #3 at camp this past weekend! Oh, and I can't boycott OM because daughter #2's elementary school choir in WV won a contest OM had and so I've got to be loyal for that. FWIW "H" got to sit in the Wiener-mobile when it came to present their prize.
