Daughter #1's first birthday:

And cooking our brains out:

These are the best pies in the world -- my mom made them. Chocolate:
Pumpkin --- note the little leaves on top (and please comment about them. The woman is extremely pleased with her leaves).
And one of my favorites, cherry:

So the food has been eaten --- well, maybe less then half of it was eaten. My family is not known for eating large quantities of food. In fact, we're more known for eating ridiculously small amounts of food, but that is for another post on another day.
Anyway, the leftovers have been stored and the dishes washed and put away. The girls did the cooking, the boys did the cleaning. That was something that Jim always did. Every family holiday he'd grab his brothers and his sons and they'd do the dishes. He'd also do the dishes at friends' houses after we'd have get-togethers. Which reminds me that I wanted to thank my friend RS for cleaning up the other night. He made me think of Jim .... and I smiled.
So we are stuffed. Mom and D. are heading home. We have friends coming over tonight to watch the UT-A&M game (cuz we're neutral territory).
And I am thankful.
Don't get me wrong ..... I'm incredibly sad, too. I miss him SO much that it makes me cry to even type those words. There shouldn't be a huge hole in my heart, or in my children's. There shouldn't be a huge hole in our home.
But there is.
And we continue to live. With holes. And with hope.
I am thankful for my God and His grace. And His presence and comfort.
I am thankful for my children, who each remind me of their wonderful father.
I am thankful for my family -- all of them, the ones who are related to me by blood and the ones who are related to me through love -- Jim's family.
I am thankful that my Mom and D moved down here to be close for help and support and love.
I am thankful for my friends. I would not be here if not for so very many of them.
I am thankful for Jim and the time we had together.
I am thankful for his love for me that will last a lifetime.
I am thankful for his provision for our family.
I am thankful for our health.
I am thankful for my church.
I am thankful for my job.
I am thankful that I have tennis.
I am thankful, most days, that I am here.
And I am thankful that so many people care about me and support me and are there for me... and here for me.
Oh, and most of all .... I am SO thankful that Daughter #3 brought her dog, Miley, with her to visit because it made me realize that I in no way whatsoever want a second dog.
Happy Thanksgiving to all and to all a good night.

and yeah, miley kind of makes you hate dogs. poor thing.
Happy Thanksgiving J!
I'm glad it was a nice day for you guys. You sure gave that new kitchen a work out. Did it pass the test? I had oven envy this morning when I was trying to get the bird and the dressing done at the same time. It turned out well though. Your mom makes some good looking pies and I do like the leaves adorning her pumpkin pie. She even detailed them with veins!
And W is 24! She got me out of a day of school 24 years ago today. Happy Birthday and thank you! Mom was so nervous that day I stayed home with her. I had no idea then how long babies could take. I probably thought we would be headed to Tulsa before lunch.
Love you,
A
The pies looked wonderful. I loved the leaves on your mom's pumpkin pie. She did a great job..that is an art and a gift to be able to do that. Your list of things to be thankful for was beautiful.Jim truly had a servants heart, what a blessing he was to all of you and what a legacy to leave. What beautiful memories you have. We had a great peaceful day and the weather was great. Thankful with you that we all have a hope that keeps on giving when a loved one dies and we know they went to heaven and we will be reunited one day.Thank you for sharing your day with all of us.. Blessings on your time with your children.
Great Pictures.
It was so great to see all the kids (and adults) last night. Your children are beautiful. Thanks for hosting the football masacre ooops! I mean football game! SO sad.
I am thankful that my family and I were so very blessed to have Jim in our lives, and to call him friend. and I am thankful for you, the friendship we share. I love you, K
The leaves are great! :) but that chocolate pie looks divine... my favorite pie is called coffee toffee pie, and it is absolutely heavenly. I need to make it...only it's about 9,000 calories per slice. There's a version in the Southern Living cookbook. I dream about that pie!!! :)
All three of those pies looked incredible and very professional! Your mom could open up her own pie shop at the lake! The leaves on the pumpkin pie really made it stand out in my opinion but then again pumpkin pie is MY favorite!
Happy Birthday to daughter#1 and enjoy the rest of your time together!
Happy Birthday Niece #1!
The leaves are indeed fabulous:)
Can you ship a pie? Ours sucked this year and I'm feeling smited!
I LOVE pumpkin pie...so I'm really bummed that it didn't turn out well.:(
I'm glad that you were all home together and that you are now able to list so many things that you are thankful for. I'm thankful for having such a great sister:)
