In Boston ....

... for Daughter #1's graduation.
I arrived yesterday afternoon. D1 had a class to head off to so I walked to the grocery store to get her/us a few things.
We spent last night watching "30 Rock" dvds and chatting about everything going on with her.
She's excited about the upcoming trip and the upcoming job in Baltimore. It starts in August and before that she will spend the summer immersed in French at some program where you have to swear a blood oath to not speak, read or listen to English for the 6 week duration.
She did this last summer and has become almost fluent.
Yes, this means that when we talk on the phone I have to speak French. And when I text or e-mail her I have to write in French. I only had 3 years of it and that was many, many moons ago but I did OK last year. It starts to come back a bit when you use it.
And it makes for very interesting phone conversations. :)
She is in a class at the moment and I'm in her office, reading blogs, checking e-mails and enjoying the view of many, many Harvard graduates walking around campus with their families (I can tell who the graduates are ..... they're the ones in the flowing black robes!).
It's a lovely, yet warm, day here.
In a couple of hours I will be sitting in a room with Daughter #1, several of her peers, professors and various theatre people while there is a reading of her thesis.
She doesn't seem nervous about it but I just realized that I am.
And I just realized for the first time ..... yes, the very first time ..... that Jim should be here.
I guess that I am indeed moving forward. He is not my first thought anymore.
That is a very bittersweet realization.
I still miss him and my eyes tear up as I write this ..... but I'm living.
I'm doing what I have to do.
What I want to do.
What needs to be done.

And while he is not here phyisically, he is here inside of me. And inside of her.
Very much inside of her.

Happy Thursday, Peeps.
:)
