And I wasn't home.
Absence makes it a wee bit difficult to purge.
While today was the well-known holiday of Presidents' Day, which also included no school for Son #3, it was not a day off for the women's tennis league in the city of Houston.
We had an away match so I forced myself out of bed at 6:30 this morning. And left the house at 7:15 so that I could stop and get the breakfast of champions: an Egg McMuffin and a Dr. Pepper.
Protein and caffeine ...... an excellent combo.
Unfortunately the combo did nothing to help me win my match.
We fought hard, though, and gave them a very tough fight. But in the end, whatever they had for breakfast must've been better than my fare.
Sigh ......
After driving back into town I had to take my car into the shop because four lights on my dashboard keep lighting up in a very obnoxious manner.
For no apparent reason at all, other than to drive me crazy and cause me to constantly flip through the encyclopedia that is my car manual.
This was the third time I have taken my car in to have those lights either turned off, or the problem diagnosed.
The diagnosis has been that there's no problem, other than it's just my car dealer's way of ripping me off for a few hundred dollars a couple of times a year.
Fortunately I do not take my car into the dealer for every little brightly lit light.
Or four.
Unfortunately, the car had to be left behind today for further diagnosis. On the flip side, they gave me a ride home, along with a battery to put into the Mustang, which hasn't been driven since ..... oh, some time in August.
Which would not only explain the dead battery, but also the four-months-expired-inspection-sticker that's stuck on my windshield.
I told the guys at the shop that I'd be bringing it in for the long-overdue inspection tomorrow.
That's when I learned that a car with a newly installed battery needs to be driven for a while to re-set all of the things that need to be set in order for the car to pass inspection.
Which puts me in a bit of a quandary.
The quandary? I need to drive the car around to work the bugs out, but if I drive it around then I stand the pretty good chance of being stopped for having an inspection sticker that expired in September. And getting a ticket. Which costs money.
Not to mention a bruising to the pride.
That would be because I've never had a ticket.
Ever.
And now that I've typed those words for all the world to see ...... or for the 6 people who read this blog ...... I've certainly doomed myself to end that wonderful ticket-free streak.
Oh well.
After I spent an hour at the car shop and then came home with one of the guys to change my battery, I barely had enough time to take a shower and get ready for my monthly board meeting for Soaring Spirits.
But I managed.
And loved every minute of it, as usual.
:)
So it is now 12:03 a.m.
Which means that, technically, I didn't post for a sixth day in a row.
But who gives a rat's patootie about technicalities?
I haven't been to bed yet, so it's still Monday night.
And it was before midnight when I started this post.
Besides, it's still before midnight on the west coast.
So yeah ...... six days in a row.
You guys must feel like you've hit the jackpot.
:)
Maybe you should go out and get a lottery ticket.
And then send me 15 percent of your winnings.
That's not too much to ask, is it?
For all of this outstanding entertainment.
Which reminds me ...... comment here and remind me to tell you in my next post why I have a picture of this:
But just in case you're not ...... remind me.
Yes, in a way it sort of is like a car wreck: you don't want to look, but you just can't help yourself. And though you think you don't, you really do want to know what's up with that.
If you remind me I'll tell you tomorrow.
It's too late to go into it tonight.
And besides ...... a woman has to keep an air of mystery about her.
Or at least that's what I learned from "Marnie".
And Carol Brady.
:)
Happy Monday/Tuesday, Peeps.
:)

Reminding you.. about the racoon.. Enjoying your posting streak!!!
Man, I thought I was busy yesterday, but now realize it was Dullsville! I've got you covered on the expired inspection sticker ticket. Isn't the rule, one per family?
I saw your face book pic, but prefer to think that's a raccoon playing opossum - makes me happy 'cause I have a weird sense of humor.
I thought Carol was too dull to have an air of mystery...
Love you, Ann
Can't wait to hear the story of rocky racoon! He is just playing possum right? lol
I love to read your blog. I have been reading since you first went to Africa. That's how I found you because we went to Africa. I have continued to read your blog because it has given me insight in how to deal with my daughter-law's
mother. Who lost her husband several monthes after wedding. It's been a rough 4 years for her.
But I have given her alot of slack
because of your blog understanding
all the levels of grief. Thank you so much for sharing your life.
Thanks, Debbie!
Ann, I agree. That's why I used her, though you couldn't see that my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek. :) And I love you, too. xoxo
Madsgramma (love your name!) -- hmmmmm, playing possum. He wishes! Well, I guess technically he doesn't wish. Any longer. ;-)
Raydene - Thank you so much for telling me that. I'm grateful that I've helped you to understand what she's going through a bit better. And I appreciate you taking the time to comment and let me know. It means a lot to me. :)
re: Carol. Thank goodness! I thought I might have missed a very special episode of The Brady Bunch. :)
I drove for over a year with an expired inspection sticker. The ticket was waived when I went to the annex by Wendy's and showed proof that I went and had the car inspected. It did cost $20 in court fees though.
