Jim, in Europe, 1988.... remember that show "C.H.I.P.S". Well, I never saw it but I knew who Erik Estrada was.
Anyway, I found out yesterday ----- that show? Totally fabricated!!! There is no such thing as a C.H.I.P. Not to my eyes, anyway. I saw nary a police officer while driving. None at all the entire time we've been here. I did manage to recuperate after my nap and I took Daughter #2 and Son #1 to La Jolla today. Still no police. Nope. Nada. Not a one. Zilch. Zero.
Which must be the reason for the American Autobahn. Because 80 was still the slow lane today.
Well, I SAY there's no police, unless of course you count the Barney Fife wannabes who work in J & L's neighborhood. And just like Mr. Fife, they take their jobs VERY seriously. They sit inside their little white cars and stick the radar gun out of the window to try to catch speedy citizens breaking the 20-miles-per-hour rule in this community. Those are the only police -- fake or real -- that I've seen. Thank God they, like Barney Fife, don't have guns with bullets. They would've shot many a hurrying citizen by now, I'm sure.
I also stopped to let a young lady pull from a parking lot into my lane today and she looked at me like I was crazy. No kidding .... there was fear on her face. I mean, I didn't have any makeup on, but sheesh! I had to drive on without her. She may still be sitting there, in shock, for all I know.
OK, that's it for now. If something else comes to mind I'll log back in.
Today was cooler (low 70's) and relaxing. We're making tacos and margaritas tonight.
I hope your day was more exciting than mine. Although, I'm not much for a lot of excitement any more.

Your tales of California drivers make it all the more pitiful that I didn't pass my driver's test the first time I took it there. It sounds like they don't have any rules--then how could I fail for not knowing the rules??? Don't know if I should sign this one, for sheer embarrassment.
My guess would be that you weren't maniacal enough for them ---- whoever you are. Don't be embarrassed. Not at all. They are C-r-a-z-y!!!
I think perhaps they drive so fast and erratically because they're attuned to avoiding some sort of natural disaster. If you were always trying to escape a wild fire, earthquake, or mud slide, you'd probably drive like that too. LOL

When I moved to Houston, after learning to drive in and spending 10 years driving in Ca. I could not believe how NICE Tx drivers were! For someone to actually stop so that you could pull out of a parking lot, or wave you on to make your left turn!! The most amazing thing to me was that if I wanted to change lanes on a hwy,I could put my turn signal on and another driver would take that as a signal that I would like to come over to their lane?! and, they would actually slow down and let me in!!!!
Now I get very angry when they don't let me in right away- LOL!Oh I wouldn't make it on the 5 today!!!!!
Love You, K.
ps. I did pass my Ca driving test the first time- but I don't think that is anything to be proud of!!It just makes me one of the crazies I think?!?
I so know about the driveres I think its the sun ahha
