A blog that started out as a humorous tale of raising 6 children, then quickly became a chronicle of my grief at being suddenly widowed. Now it's the rest of my journey ... of living, laughing, crying, praying, rejoicing. Of being happy, sad, angry, content, sorrowful, alone, amazed and very, very blessed. And still taking life, one breath at a time ........

too, too sad
On my way to be with George while they put him to sleep. He has the FIP virus, which is fatal. And very, very contagious. "highly contagios" And so they think the other 2 probably have it Really? Yes, really.

Oh J, I am so very sorry to hear this news. You deserve a break. I am going to google FIP. How do cats get it? Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Love, L
Good evening my darling daughter. We just got back home. I am so, so sorry about poor little George. He was such a sweatheart. I choose to believe the other two will be fine. I also choose to believe I didn't bring it home to our kitties. I love you tremendously.
I don't want to step on any toes here, but FIP is NOT highly contagious. Corona virus is contagious, but FIP is the mutated form of a corona virus (think of it like Aids is to HIV) and only about 5% of cats get the mutated FIP. The cats could all 3 have Corona virus, or only George could have, but in some cats the virus mutates and becomes FIP. It doesn't necessarily happen in all cats, actually it only happens to about 5% of cats that are carriers of the corona virus. Don't panic, the other two are very likely to be just fine. You are very diligent with the litter box cleaning (usually how it is transmitted) and I would recommend cleaning them just like when Colbie had worms. Very hot water and bleach. George was always a little on the thin side, so his immune system may have not been enough to protect him, though it is really not known why some cats get the mutated form and others do not. I am so sorry about George, but I don't want you to sit around and worry about when you are going to lose your other two. I can get you documents or you can find out most of this information on the internet. Your mom's cats have an extemely low probability of getting the corona virus from your house and still only a 5% chance of it developing into FIP if they happen to already carry the corona virus. Please, please though, try not to worry as cats from shelters and rescue groups have a greater chance of carrying the virus. Colbie for sure seemed very healthy to me, so I feel she has a very very good chance of being just fine. I haven't seen Rigby since a kitten, but if he is healthy he is unlikely to have a problem either. I hope this makes you feel at least a wee bit better. I am truly sorry about George, but you sure gave him a TERRIFIC loving home during his short life and it would have happened no matter where he lived.
J, I'm so sorry about George. It's horrible. I want to say I will pray that C and R don't get this virus, but in keeping with our conversation the other day about prayer- I am going to pray that whatever happens, God will give you strength and comfort through this time.
I love your parenting advice, always have. I have one for you about a certain 6 year old who seems to want to act more like a 15 year old and wants to hang around with 45-50 year olds. How do I help him make friends with other 6 year olds? He is upset with me because I did not invite his original guest list to his birthday party this Sunday afternoon (which was filled with 45-50 year old men and women and a couple 12-18 year olds)Instead I invited his classmates(imagine that?) he is not happy that Mr. B and the other Mr. B (who is actually Mr. T) were not on the list, among other "friends" and "future wives"...will he ever be a normal little boy who plays with other little children? Or should I just let him be who he is and play with Mr. B, Mr. T, and Mr. F if that’s what makes him happy??? UGH!!!
I Love you, and I am really really sorry about George. K
