What an amazing night.
Gabby's mom was scheduled to have her C-section tomorrow, but she went into labor tonight. So Dr. Melanie called and asked if I wanted to come ..... and of course I did. So I left our staff Christmas party, picked up Son #3 and took V and off we went. We arrived around 11:00. They were all born before midnight.
It was great.
Four boys. Four girls. All seemingly healthy and squeaky and big! It was a bit stressful at first because Dr. Melanie was pulling them out as fast as she could and we were trying to keep up with her, but some puppies took a lot more rubbing to bring them round than others. Two of them gave us quite a scare, but they started squeaking and moving after several minutes of trying.
When we left Mom was up and around .... also amazing and doing well. Son #3 held his favorite most of the night and insists he can pick her out again in 8 weeks. What-ev-ah. They all looked totally alike to me!
OK, so off to bed for me.
Tomorrow I'll tell you all about the Dedication and the kids and whatever else I can think of. Wait .... it IS tomorrow.
I'm tired.
Oh, and let it be noted that Son #3 did not yak upon his shoes (or anything else) and V did very well, too .... though she thought she'd be able to hide around the corner and not watch. Once those puppies started coming she was right in the thick of things helping out!
And let it also be noted that I never once uttered the words, "Dr. Melly, I don't know nuthin bout birthin' no puppies!!" ..... though I might have thought them.
Waiting for the big event to start:
Recovering mama. Don't you wonder what she thought when she woke up and saw 8 squeaking, newly hatched dinosaur-looking beings attached to her? I wonder if she thought, "Did I take an Ambien and do something under the influence?!!" Oh .... wait, no ...... that's me.

Which one can we have????
Preferably female.
But, hey, we're not fussy.
We'll trade one for a Halibut charter once the breeders get here!!
(we heard they are moving here???)
If so, Oh BOY..we're in trouble!!!
XOXO
K1 and M1
Awwwwwwww!!! They're wonderful!!!
I've been there when my Newfie had an emergency c-section. It was amazing and beautiful!
Just the beaming smile on your face says enough for me. I can't think of a better time for this blessed little (okay, BIG) event!
It's 1:11 am here right now and of course, I had to check in ONE more time before I went to bed, so I'm THRILLED to see this post!
I love you!
Lis
I just had to comment and tell you that the phrase, "I don't know nothin' 'bout birthing no guinea pigs!", actually did come out of my mouth this week. :)
What an amazing experience for all of you. That would have been awsome to be apart of. They are so little but grow up to be HUGE!!! And the poor thing had EIGHT of those inside of her. That is just nuts! Totally laughed on the Ambien thing. Know where you are coming from on that. I can't wait to read about the dedication. I am sure it was beautiful. Love you tons!
It was Great! Thank you for helping. We needed all hands on deck, that was for sure. Also, thank you for NOT posting any pics of my wonderful shave job! Mortifying. Hopefully they look at the incision and say, "she did a pretty good job"!
Love,
Melanie
PS My mom's family is from Tenn. and they call me Melly!! Too funny!!
Ok... I think I have it figured out...The "mommy" is NOT the "vets" dog. The VET is just the VET...the "mommy" dogs owner is moving to AK in May??
Oh, wow. What a neat experience. And your Son #3 looks JUST like you. :) I once watched a cat of mine give birth to FIVE kittens- it was so crazy- she just let out a little cry when one would pop out. I wish it was that easy for us! :)
Very Cool! Way to go V! So glad you got to be there!
Love you girl and I continue to pray for you and your kiddos!

I'm new around these parts and was very startled to know that a friend of yours had 8 babies at once. Gabby=dog. I've got it now.
