We went to the early (8:30 a.m.) church service and when we left the house ..... It. Was. Cold.
It was 27 degrees and that is cold in MY book, Peeps.
Yes, I know it's nothing up here, where it gets way, way, way below zero in the winter .... but for this Texas body ..... 27 is too dang cold.
But I managed to whimper only to myself ... at least I think it was only to myself. I guess I'll have to ask M if she heard me.
One of M's sisters and her family came over for the afternoon yesterday. We had lunch and everyone visited for a while.
After they left M and I went for a drive around the area. She showed me the farm where they lived when she was a little girl. We watched the sun set at a lake (pics to come when I get home), and she just drove me around, showing me the sights (the town has a population of about 1,000).
Then we rented a movie and had a quiet night.
Today was a bit different.
We set out this morning for "the cities" (as real Minnesotans say) and to the Mall of America. It was all you've been told. Huge.
Very huge.
And yes, it has a roller coaster. In fact, it has 2 roller coasters, a ferris wheel, plus a few other rides.
A friend who used to live in Texas met us there (hi JB!) and we had a great time catching up over lunch.
And then we hit the roller coaster. It took a bit of coaxing, but we managed to get M on the ride. It was a great coaster .... it went straight up, straight down, upside down .... more than once, and very, very fast. I loved it, as did JB.
M screamed through most of the ride, but she has admitted that she enjoyed it and is glad we talked her into it. I'm glad we talked her into it, too.
We managed to get a bit of shopping in .... but only a bit. I mainly just wanted to go to: 1. Say that I went and 2. See JB.
I can now check this off of my bucket list.
OK, that's not entirely true.
That wasn't on my bucket list and ..... I don't really have a bucket list.
But maybe I should come up with one and add the Mall of America to it so that I can feel at least a wee bit of a sense of accomplishment. :)
Tomorrow is our last day here and we have no firm plans, other than trying to figure out how to each pack a quilt into our bags.
I will be glad to get home. I've had a great time with M, but I miss my bed. And maybe .... just maybe .... I miss my boys.
I know!!
I woke up this morning at 4:30 (forgot to take my meds)... it's difficult to not be able to sleep when you're in someone else's house. At home I'd turn on the TV or walk around, but here I didn't want to wake anyone up so I didn't get up and do anything. But mostly I didn't want to wake up M's mom's dog .... who barks like a maniac sometimes. I didn't even go to the bathroom .... just in case my walking around would wake up this miniature dachshund named Peanuts. Peanuts likes the sound of his own voice and I really didn't want to hear him at 4:30 a.m.
So I stayed in bed .... and dozed on and off .... mostly off. I will not forget my meds tonight.
And hopefully I'll dream about riding fun roller coasters!!
Happy Monday, Peeps.
:)

Unbelievable! It sounds as tho' you are "up north" in MY old stompin' grounds. I was raised in a small town in northern MN, about 2 and a half hours north of "the Cities". You can see (by your description of the cold mornings) that going back there was a rude shock to my southern-thinned blood! I am happy to be in FL through the colder months, believe me! The Mall is indeed fun to experience, but needs to be done in a coupla smaller visits (IMHO). Glad you got away, but I know what you mean about missing your own bed. Looking forward to the sunset pics.
Makes me homesick for home! I grew up in tiny Zumbrota (still does not have a traffic light) which is 60 miles south of the Twin Cities! We go to the MOA every year...but we go in June! Glad you had a good trip and love the quilt that you made!

Zumbrota, wow, mom has talked about that town soooo much. J & I(M) had a good time, but I was afraid that it was a little overwhelming or maybe underwhelming --- you know small town life. She was a good sport! Looking at stars with me and all, plus no movie theatre or Star Bucks, Caribou Coffee all the way!
J is amazing. Love to you all!
