Yep, I did it.
I had dinner with a few widowed friends Tuesday night. The woman who hosted us had decorated her house. She loves to do it. She's a very joyful person and you could see Christmas just looking at her.
So I felt .... inspired.
I got up the next morning and started pulling out the boxes. I've never done it alone before. The kids have always helped. Note that I did not include Jim in that sentence. He rarely helped. His one contribution was to put the lights on the tree .... before we had a fake, pre-lit tree.
The man was not a decorator.
Those of you who knew him are laughing pretty hard at that thought, aren't you?
:)
Anyway, I thought maybe I'd just do one box a day.
Anyone who knows me well is also laughing at that thought.
I cannot do anything part-way.
Once I make my mind up to do something, I'm hell-bent on doing it. And doing it quickly.
Well .... I didn't get it done quickly, but I got it done.
I think I spent about 5 hours on it .... working the whole time.
I know some people who work for days on decorating their home for Christmas.
I am not one of those people.
I didn't do all of the decorations, but I think I did most.
The boys haven't said anything.
Not. A. Word.
Not even about the fact that there are only 7 stockings hanging this year.
I pulled all 8 of them out.
I held his for a while .... and then I set it aside and proceeded to hang up the others.
I'm still not sure about that decision.
I didn't pack his stocking away .... it's nearby, in case I .... or one of the kids .... decides it needs to be there.
I'm not sure why I didn't put it up.
His name is all over other decorations and ornaments.
But the stockings ...... the stockings are so visible.
And he is not.
OK .... this post started off on a happy note and now I'm tearing up.
Enough.
I'm off to see Daughter #2 and Daughter #3 in the play, "A Christmas Story".
Yay for them.
And my house is decorated.
Yay for me.
I miss him, Peeps.
Every bit as much.
Happy Weekend.
:)

wowser ... a huge well done and wow am I in awe of you for doing that on your own. I'm sure that many of the decorations brought those gasps of breath and pain, and hurt like h$ll, but you did it!
Bet it looks beautiful x
Mary Lou has left a new comment on your post "The House is ....":
Good for you that you got it decorated. Know this time is hard on you....know the girls did well in their play....had one of my children who loved to be out front and the other one loved working behind the scenes and now her daughter loves to perform....what a blessing for you. May this week be good for you.
yay for you. decorating for christmas can be challenging for even folks who aren't going through something like this. i find that dealing with the fake tree (fluffing) is such a thankless job that i hired the job out to three young ladies who did a FANTASTIC job. it cost me $50 to get the tree fluffed, lit, and decorated. the $50 is going to YWAM to fund our pastor's ethiopian adoption fund. best fifty bucks i ever spent!
Glad your house is done. it'll be fun to see if the boys. ever. notice. ha!
