Pictures of your "weather", that is.
I had alternate titles for this post:
Spring Has .... Sprung
I Finally Gave in .... and Turned on the A.C.
Every Thing's Coming Up .... Yellow
Yes, some of you are experiencing snow, frost, tornados, rain ..... you name it, it's out there.
Must be all that global warming.
But here, down in south Texas .... it's
Spring has come.
Now please don't think that I'm writing this post to brag about our weather. I am not.
Trust me.
Because we can always compare notes again in July, August, September and October when it's still hotter than blazes with 245% humidity and every day is a bad-hair day.
While spring is pretty nice in most areas of the country, we get a huge present that comes with our spring.
Oh .... and for the most part, our spring lasts about .... ohhhhh ..... 2 weeks.
Seriously.
We do not have 4 seasons here.
We have hot, hotter, humid and maybe cool.
But on the up side .... we NEVER shovel snow.
And that's huge.
Anyway, I'm going to share with you the lovely present that spring brings to our part of the country.
The pictures didn't come out as clearly as I would have liked (maybe I should have used a real camera rather than a cell phone), so you won't get the full impact.
Try to use your imagination.
Think .... yellow.
Yellow, yellow, yellow.
No, not yellow flowers, not a yellow sun, not even brightly-colored yellow spring clothing.
Nope ..... we get a thick, gross, sinus-destroying covering of yellow pollen.
It covers .... Every. Thing.
And anyone who stands outside for more than 2 minutes.
I kid you not.
It's gross.
And it keeps covering us and our outdoor possessions ..... homes, cars, grills, pets, small children ... with a lovely coat of yellow.
I went outside today, with my trusty cell phone, to take pictures for ya'll .... my Peeps.
Yes, I did just type the word "ya'll". I apologize. When I'm
Any-who ..... here are some pics.
Please try to envision more yellow than you'll actually see.
Pretty please.
This is one of our trash cans. It's supposed to be green. It's coated (on the top) with yellow pollen:
This one really didn't show up, but the trash bags look like they're covered in dust, when it's actually yellow pollen:
These are the pods that carry the pollen. Or bomb it down from the trees, whatever. The spots on the street are where the pods hit and left a splotch of yellow:
These are the pods that line the streets, as far as you can see:
Here are more of them:
OK, these steps are TOTALLY yellow in person (or ... in step). They're supposed to be a reddish-pink, but they look like they're covered in dust, or chalk. Nope. Pollen. Poor bricks. I wonder if they're allergic?
As water runs down the street (from sprinkler systems in the yards, or everyone power washing the yellow crap off .... which is most likely), it carries the pollen with it. It's a thick coating on top of the water. Beautiful, no?
A closer look. Yes, it just looks dirty, but it's not. It's pollen. Lots and lots of pollen:
Well, there you go. I hope you enjoyed sharing our spring with me. I'll try to be on the lookout for better pictures of the joy-killer of spring.
What does your spring look like right now?
If you can .... send me a picture (and I'll post it).
Or, just describe it as best you can.
Until then .... happy Thursday, and enjoy your spring, Peeps!
:)

UPDATE:
Here are a couple of pics I took today of my car:
And here is a picture of totally different trash bag .... it had been outside only 45 minutes:
And, because she loves me .... my sister-in-law sent me a couple of pictures of her car ..... which is about 4 hours north of here:
Ahhhhh, spring in Texas ..... just take a deep breath and breathe it all in.
And then head straight to the doctor for you weekly allergy shot.
Ugh!!!
Keep telling me about your weather.
Hey, Wendie ..... what's it like in Boston?? :)

Spring in NC looks very much like Spring in TX.
We usually visit our daughter in TX in March and the pollen results in an upper respiratory infection for me. The antibiotic kicks in and we come back to NC where I promptly get another infection as our weather cycle runs a couple weeks behind yours.
Am missing my grandchildren as we did not get to see them this March, but not missing the respiratory infection! Still have a couple weeks before it will kick in, currently just sneezing.
You are so funny! It's sorta the same thing here... Except right now, all the rain is washing some of the pollen away, and the little thingamagigs that are coming off the trees here look like larve or grubs. Gross. But at least it's not snow!!!!! =)
Yes, NC can be much the same, as Phyllis stated. Yellow EVERYWHERE! Fortunately, I am not allergic to it. Spring can be a bit longer here in NC, maybe 4 weeks. :/ But during the spring period, temps jump around, so one day I will be using my A/C and the next I might need the heat -- and then summer hits and UGH!, hot and humid!
It makes my eyes itch just looking at it. Shelby mixed water with it the other day and made a sort of paste. Pollen paste. It was gross. I made her wash her hands immediately.
I so wish that I'd had a camera yesterday afternoon. I work on a college campus with a gorgeous brick horseshoe in the center of campus (http://www.sciway.net/sc-photos/richland-county/usc-horseshoe.html). Yesterday was VERY windy and because the buildings are so close together in the center of campus, the wind carried all of the pollen into the center of campus and created a miniature pollen tornado. You could tell which students had been laying out, having lunch or studying on the horseshoe by late afternoon because they were all covered in yellow dust. Gross!!!
give me allergies or give me snow...i'd take allergies...and yes, i suffer from allergies but have been able to control it so far this year with a daily dose of zyrtec clone. my mom said they had snow again yesterday in cleveland, ohio.
Well no picture, but we are covered with snow and today I fell down on the hidden ice under it. Then I stopped quickly & the 8" of snow on my car roof slid down on my windshield in one big chunk and I could not see a thing. Life gets pretty exciting up in the north country, but at least we are not yellow for now!!
I DO love you Janine, and will take pictures of my sneeze mobile ANYTIME for you! I believe our pollen showers are, in fact, green, as they show green on many different colors of cars. Thought you would like to know... for sure.
❤ Ann
Oh, I'm SO taking a picture today. More than I could ever verbally express.
Our pollen is more of a neon green and comes mid May. Your pics are great! I'm getting shnuffly just lokking at them :)

Is there pollen like this everywhere when spring comes? Wendie .... do you have in Boston when it finally gets warm (like in .... what .... August?)? :)
I don't remember it being this bad in Oklahoma, but I haven't lived there in such a long time and I've slept since then so .....
I've never had allergy problems, until the last year or so. One would think you'd grow OUT of them and not INTO them!!
Ahhhhh ..... south Texas ......
Hey Janine!
Maybe the wind in Oklahoma just swept the pollen down the plain? I don't remember it either. I do remember being SHOCKED to walk out to my car during my first spring in Mississippi to find it GREEN. So I guess I will answer for NE Mississippi as well.
:) Ann
Same thing happens here in Missouri. Everything will soon be covered in YELLOW, even my dog (she is an outside dog mostly) gets coated with the stuff. YUCK! And to think we have to put up with snow yet again! Got 5 inches of the white stuff today. All our flowering trees are budded and daffodils are up - So...tomorrow they will most likely all look like wilted lettuce when it warms to about 50 degrees and all this melts away. Oh well ~ everything has a purpose...even pollen! Happy Spring!
No Pollen here, just good ol' coldness. Had flurries the other day. The kids spring break was less than warm. Patrick said, "if its spring, why is it so cold...its spring RIGHT?? 30's all week, so enjoy your warmth, even if it does come with a yellow layer! Rather have that then those stupid love bugs!!! Now that was gross!!!!! Love you!
