Hello Blog-dom!
As you might have guessed by the title of this post, this is not Janine writing. It's D2. I'm home for the holidays after a long and hectic semester of grad school, and while I'm here I also get to be the family nurse for a bit.
As you may have read in a previous post, my mom and S2 both underwent minor operations this morning- both were on their faces.
I'm happy to report that they are both home and doing relatively well right now (thanks, pain meds!) and that I'm seeing a bit less blood now (thanks, platelets!). I've also learned I have no desire to enter the medical field in the near future. So all in all I'd say it's been an exciting day.
But the best part for me?
Probably when the receptionist at the oral surgeon's office this morning invited my brother (who is 19-years-old, by the way) to the desk, then glanced at me (the only other person in the room) and cheerfully said, "You can bring your mom up here with you!"
...
I'm 24.
I feel like I'm too young to be insulted by things like that.
But even if my pride is not, I do want to reiterate that both patients are recovering well. My mom will probably be back to writing her own blog posts soon. They will probably include lots of lovely stories about me tending to her and S2's every whim and being the best nurse of all time.
Or, perhaps more likely, stories of me being way too picky about the movies we watched and trying to avoid looking at bloody bandages.
In any case, it's time for me to make S2 some liquid lunch and swap out his gauze. Here's hoping I can manage to do so without touching/seeing any blood!

Dear D2,
You sound like an absolute sweetheart, and lets just believe that the receptionist either forgot and left her glasses at home this morning, or she's past due for her cataract surgery!! I'm sure that S2, and your mom, are getting the best possible care! Tell her that we are all thinking about her and your brother.......and you, too.
Take care sweetheart,
Jacquelyn
They are lucky to have you! You are good writer like your mom!
Thanks for the update. Was wondering how ALL of you were doing. That includes you D2, for you are the caretaker.
Thank you for filling in Special Guest Writer! I loved your post and wondered...are you are available for hire? No one is in need of nursing here, (blood and gauze free-however we do have a large assortment of good holiday movies!) and we certainly would enjoy your good sense of humor for a few hours! A day with you in the house would definitely add lots of joy to the holiday spirit!
Thank you for filling in for your Mom, it was a wonderful treat! Hope you enjoy a great Christmas break! 8-)
I'm glad to hear everybody is on the mend!
Your mom better be careful about allowing a "guest blogger" on her site, though. I did that with my own daughter one time, and her "Essay on Family" that she wrote generates more web "hits" than anything else I have posted...:(
(LOL... I actually get a kick out of it.)
Keep on blogging! If you haven't, perhaps you should start your own!
And, from this nurse, it sounds like you are being a very good nurse yourself.
Merry Christmas to all of you.
Glad to hear both are recovery and have a private nurse to take care of them.
Happy Holidays to all!
