So, I'm sitting in a hotel room in Dallas w/ Son #1. We got here around 10 p.m. He came here with Jim last year when they were checking out the campus. Tomorrow and Tuesday is orientation. This will be difficult on a few levels. The most difficult part, of course, is that Jim is not here with me .... my first time to do this without him. Sigh.
And of course there's the fact that I have to let him go off to school in the first place. And I suppose I have to do it without embarrassing the crud out of him. We shall see.
I'm starting to think that I should not let Son #1 take charge of making hotel reservations.
We walked into this very nice, very modern hotel (which requires valet parking --- my first indication).
We checked in and then went to our room. Here are some of the pictures:
This is the large flat screen TV hanging on the wall:
I decided to pass on the pictures of the leopard bath robes and slippers. No kidding. Oh, and I would've taken a picture of the $7 bottle of water in the mini-bar, but I figured that there'd be some kind of charge for just doing that!
So now we all know that Son #1 has expensive tastes. Which would be fine if he had a bank account to fund that taste. But he does not. At the moment he's relying on the kindness of ..... me! What a huge amount of power! I shall try to use it with grace and kindness. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Whew -- have to catch my breath now and wipe the tears out of my eyes. Ooooh, that was good! tee hee hee :)
Um.... I think he made this reservation one night when my brain was on auto-pilot. I should probably call the front desk and ask them what the nightly rates are, but I figure, what the heck. If Jim liked it then I guess it's OK. Son #1 "kind of" remembers the rate. He'd better be right.
And he'd better enjoy his fine taste while he has a loving parent (mostly) to fund it!! I'm giving him up to 5 years (which, pat me on the back --- I think is VERY generous of me!) to get
his degree, After that, like his Boston sister, he's out on his own. Out in the proverbial cold.
OK, that's it for tonight. Got to get up early and hit the campus! Oh, and I get to look forward to waking up to the "fight song" Son #1 put on his iPod, which inserts into the fancy alarm clock here. Yee-haw.

wow! sounds kinda expensive, but then we always knew that he had expensive taste! I hope everything goes smooth there. Love you tons and miss you more!
Oh heck, you gotta' let the kid go nuts right before he goes to college! $7 bottle of water?? That's a GOOD price compared to what they were charging at the Chicago White Sox game yesterday!! And to boot, they lost 8-7. I had a nice surprise the day before while at K1's sister's house though. I was sitting at the table and looked over and there stood Dawn! It almost knocked me out of my chair. Wish you all could have been here but I understand. We're all havin' a blast and we'll talk soon! Love and miss ya tons!
