What a difference a month makes...

... in Gabby!

And also in my water bill.  Three months ago it was about 60 bucks.  Two months ago it was around $325.  I then turned off the sprinkler system.  The next month (August) it was $566.
That was the month the water co sent me a notice, telling me that I was using too much water.  I called them up the same day and told them that actually, I was using less.  And that unless one of my neighbors was using my water to fill up their swimming pool, they'd best send someone out to check for a leak.  The lovely (?) woman with whom I spoke was a little less than accommodating.
I manage to convince her.  Don't ask me how.  Some things I must not reveal.
Anyway, I soon received another letter telling me that there was no leak.
Today I received the September bill.
Drum roll please .......................  $13.97.
Yes, as in -- one ten, 3 ones and ninety seven pennies.

I don't know what they are smoking at the water company, but I may have to go check it out.

Now, tell me a utility company story ---- I know you have one (or twenty)!

How about my $500 electricity bill I just got despite the fact that electricity was out for almost 2 weeks of that?!!! It even says on the bill it's an "estimated" value, they didn't check the meter... I called them and they said they will adjust it next month. So I suspect everyone else is going to be in the same boat. Can you have them come and check your water meter? Is there such a thing?!!

How about your bros and my phone bills before we were married... they were in the $600.00 range.(mostly because I would fall asleep with the phone on my ear while he talked! LOL! JK!Ok, well sometimes I would...but he'll say all the time!!)
After we were married for a month or so...the phone company sent US a check for $25.oo! No reason. No overpayment. Just a check! And they were not even our server anymore. Guess they missed us! They must have thought we either broke up or finally got married!! ;)

Last year, our electric company had a power-station blow-out and it fried our brand new furnace. We came home to a house filled with black smoke and thought we had lost everything! The power company sent someone out to "fix" the furnace, but after that, our bills kept getting higher and higher. I kept calling them and saying that there HAD to be something wrong. They came and checked the meter and said, "Nope...you just need to turn down the heat!" We did, but it didn't help. We were baffled.
This Summer, my husband went under the house to check it all out and THEY had left the ducting all undone under there! We were HEATING the entire crawl-space under our house last year! I was SOOOO danged mad. But what do you do? You cannot win in a fight with those idiots. Oh...and this was all right after they erected a gigantic freakin' transformer power-station on MY property without notification. Grrrrrrrrrrr.....

Am I crazy or are you and Gabby starting to resemble each other? :)

After Rita we lost water for a three days. The next bill showed we used 29,000 gallons of water. Eventhough we had averaged around 8,000 before Rita. The water company kindly reduced it to 15,000 gallons.

How about after National Power Co. went out of business & we got slammed to Reliant. When our new Co. kicked in, despite our NUMEROUS calls (give me your secret to getting what you need!), they are still charging us....$103 dollars for each of the last 3 months. You know my house. Can you imagine what we will owe?!! Both my children I'm sure. We are on a 48 hr. call back list!Help!!

I got nothin. No utility stories. That is freekin crazy! I guess they do that randomly to see if people are bumb and will pay it and yay for them. Or if people are smart and catch it. I think they just sit around and laugh at the outragous amounts they can get people to pay. Oh to be a fly on the wall at utility companies. Gabby is getting so bit. She is going to be bigger than you soon! Love you chick!

We have lived in our current house for almost four years. Every month our water bill runs between $30 and $70. On occasion, if we do a lot of watering, it may teter near $100. Every year in September, we get a crazy bill that is near $200. Every year I call to tell them that they are crazy and that we did not have an increase in water usage. At least not that much of an increase. Every year I take my cordless phone outside and the not-very-friendly "customer service" person talks me through reading my water meter. Every year it reads correct. Every year I have them send someone out to test my meter to make sure that it is working properly because there is no way we have double our water usage. Every year they send someone to tell me that it is working properly. Every October I have had an incredibly low bill. Every year. If I was Oliver Stone I would think that the Houston Water Department has a conspiracy against me.

Reliant Energy just sent me a notice regarding my inaccessible gas meter. It has not been read in the last two months. Basically I needed to go on the postcard plan read my own meter, relocate my meter for $180, if I did not make arrangements they would shut off my service and charge me a reconnect fee, or make my meter accessible. I called first time they said they were too busy that day and to call back another day, called back, I told them it was about 20 feet from the side walk, not behind any fence, no dog, and they seem to read it fine for the last 17 years . . . they then told me they had a shortage of meter readers for August so they guessed, September Ike hit so they guessed again, so after two months they send out this form letter . . . she informed me that they would be nice and put me back on my original plan and not to worry about it . . . you have just got to love these people.

We were one day late on our bill last month and they turned our water off WITHOUT NOTICE. I came home from spending the day with my mom and sister at the outlet mall on 290 and we had no water when I got home. They charged me $40 to turn on the water after hours and a $50 reconnect fee and told me that I needed to bring a money order before noon the next day for our balance due, or they would turn the water off again! They have too much power!!! We have never been late and are good customers....just one day late...unbelieveable!

We had a five hundred dollar water bill in the middle of winter..so we were not watering the yard and no leaks showed in the irrigation system when it was shut down. We fought it but had to pay. The city changed the meter out, which I believe was at fault, but we couldn't really prove it. So, we paid....haven't had one like that again...really is irritating Guess we all get bit at one time or another.

On a perfectly clear day, with no storms and no planned outages, my power went out and I reported it to the electric company. When they called me back 3 hours later, they said that there were no outages in my area, so I should just flip my breaker switch. I was at work then and couldn't leave. When I got home, I tried flipping the breaker, but guess what - the power was STILL out. So, I called the company back and they said that someone had fixed it at 11am (the time that they called and told me to flip the breaker). To get the power back on, I had to stay on the phone for over an hour and they still didn't fix it until my mom called at the same time and demanded to speak to a manager. When I eventually did get power and the manager apologized to me, she said (no lie), "Ma'am, I'm sorry you didn't have power, but we had no way of knowing that a contractor in your area had killed the power. If we had known that you didn't have power earlier, we would have come out immediately."

Um - REALLY?!?!?!?! Because I called at 8am! Why was still arguing to get power at 8pm? I guess 12 hours wasn't enough notice.
