Ten months ........

I had no idea that this would be our last time to visit OSU, together.

So, I'm home now.  I had a great weekend.  It was fun to be with V and her family.   She has the greatest kids.  Well, next to mine, of course.
And Homecoming was fun.  And we won!!!  YAY POKES!!!  So sorry for my darling daughters, who drove all the way up to see their team lose.
Whatever .... I'm totally lying.  I've watched my team lose at their stadium before so all's fair in football.
So yesterday was 10 months .... and it was still a good day.
There is a light.  It's far off, but it's there ... most days.
Son #3 had a good time and says he wants to be a Cowboy.  I know he'll break my heart so I'm not counting on it.  It would be nice if at least one of them went there .... I don't think that's asking too much.  Oh well.
We got back today and all was well.  Mom stayed with the animals and there was no coup while I was gone.
My grandmother came in tonight from Oregon.  I love my Grandma .... a lot.  She was always my favorite person in the world when I was a child.  This visit is monumentally huge.  I cannot explain to you how huge it is.  She hates to fly and has only done it a handful of times.  She's 86 and getting smaller by the year.  But she has always had a special place for me in her heart (my mom lived with her parents when I was born and my father was in the Navy).  She helped take care of me for a while.  I still cannot believe she is sitting here next to me.  This is HUGE!

Thank you again for all of the answers to the questions.  You had some very thought-provoking answers.
So here's my question for tonight ---
tell my your favorite memory of one (or more) of your grandparents.

This is an easy one.
It's good to be back.  Thanks for being here.

My grandmother (mom's side) died long before I was born and my grandfather (mom's side) died when I was only 10 years old. My grandfather (dad's side) died long before I was born and my grandmother (dad's side) had nothing to do with us because my parents were divorced. The only memory I really have of my grandfather (mom's side) is when my bro was tattling on me for putting too much sugar on my cereal, and my grandfather pushed it all down in my cereal with my spoon, so my mother wouldn't see it.
Sorry, that's it. So I am SO HUGELY, HUGELY, THANKFUL that my kids have their grandma's and grandpa's and even GREAT(EST) GRANDMA! Wow! My kids could write a book filled with their memories of them!
One of their favorites was meeting Great Grandma for the first time, and hearing her say that one of her dogs was a "big dude" and another one was a "little turd"!! They thought that was hilarious coming out of her mouth!!
Give Grandma a big hug from us, and tell her I baked M1 an apple pie tonight, but it is NOTHING compared to hers!! Poor M1. :(
XOXO

It didn't take her long to use the term "little turd" tonight, either. Son #3 is in hog heaven, having a grandma who can say "turd" and curse like a sailor!
I will give her your love in the a.m. The two grandmas are in bed now. I told Conner he should call them Mimi and Gigi (Great Grandma)). I'm not sure that he, as a 14 year old male, went for the Gigi part.
Oh well. I thought it was cute. I'd love to be called Gigi by my grandkids!
Miss you guys SO much!!!
Love, love, love you!!!!

Hmmm...wow, I have very few grandparent memories, but I do remember when my grandpa rented a helicopter once and took me for a ride! It was really cool and the only time I have ever been in a helicopter!
Dad's father died when Dad was just a boy and his mother didn't raise him, so my great Aunt & Uncle who did were my "Grandparents". I remember most that my grandma had HUGE forearms from working the farm...and she cooked a LOT of really GOOD food!
Every time I smell a pipe with cherry tobacco, I remember my "Pappy". He was a logger and he cursed a lot;)
I'm SO glad that you had a great weekend and are finally seeing a little light. Glad your team won too! Please give your grandma a hug for me:)
I love you!

Well which one do I chose?? Let's start with the trip to Elder Creek one weekend, Grandma sitting in the middle, me in the passenger's seat. Grandpa was driving and had his right arm around grandma with his hand hanging way over the front her shoulder. At this point an 11 year old saw his grandpa grab something he had never seen grabbed before! And what did grandpa say?

"What?! We're married so it's legal."

My most favorable memory though is of a Christmas prsent my Grandma & Grandpa gave me when I was 11 or 12. They gave me a fly fishing reel, a fishing vest and a box full of flies that Grandma had hand tied. To this day, I still have all of them and as a matter of fact I caught a few nice 16-18 inch rainbows this year with the real and flies.

I have tons though...hiking over Greahart Moutain with Grandpa(and others), butchering a cow, helping him clean carpets and furniture, grandma's pancakes on the weekend at Elder Creek, sitting in the sun first thing in the morning at Elder Creek drinking hot chocolate and trying to stay warm, waiting anxiously to finish breakfast so we could go fishing for the day in the Honda Trail 90s and I could go on and on and on. Hello Grandma!! And last but not least, GRANDMA'S APPLE PIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love you Grandma, and all of you there, and miss you all terribly!

I don't have a lot of memories of my grandparents because my dad was in the army and we moved around so much and my mom was the baby so my grandparents were old when I was little. I do have one memory that makes me feel special to this day. They did not sleep in the same bed, but slept in the same room, he slept in a twin bed and she slept in a double. When we visited she would let me sleep with her and that made me feel so special. Don't know why but it just did. My husband's grandparents really loved him and he has numerous tales. I was priveleged to know them and felt very accepted and loved by them. She was one who could cook too...boy talk about her pecan pies.
So glad you had a good week end and there is more light at the end of the tunnel. May you really enjoy your vist with your mother and grandmother...Gigi is a cute name to be called...I am Nana..I picked it, sometimes "they" decide what to call you, I lucked up and got to pick...Blessings on your day.

We weren't close to my dad's side of the family, so most grandparent memories come from my mom's family. I hardly know what to choose.

Maybe seeing the sweater vest that my Memere knitted my Pepere on her new knitting machine, only to realize that if you looked sideways, the pattern spelled "Bullsh*t" over and over. They loved that pattern--even gave on to their priest. Sigh.

Playing Dr.Mario with my grandparents on THIER Nintendo, and beating them soundly.

Driving with my grandfather to the convenience store--with him letting me give the directions, and me saying, "Go straight, Pep." And him replying, "But if I go straight, I'll hit that tree!", and me having to say (in an irritated voice), "Follow the ROAD, Pepere!". LOL

Really, there are too many to tell. But those jumped to mind first. I'll spare you the jokes he used to tell. LOL

Hi J!
That is so cool to have your Grandma there!

I remember Grandpa L hummed hymns in the car when Mom was driving. She was a good driver but he was nervous. You could tell when he got really nervous because he started humming louder - drove Mom crazy!

Grandpa E was very old when I was little. I remember him trooping down to Mom & Dad's room to hear me play my play-by-number organ. When I was older I played clarinet in the band and he listened to me play hymns for a long time one afternoon. His hearing was pretty bad which probably accounts for his staying power. The next time I saw him, he gave me the music stand he used when he played clarinet in the church band.

Grandma E was so sweet! Remember how you could talk to her for an hour and then she would sigh and say "I don't know nothing not either." She and Grandpa used to make popcorn for J3 and I. We couldn't have a bite until they checked all of it for kernels - didn't want us breaking a tooth on their watch! I remember baking peanut butter cookies with her. I love peonies because of her. She had some in her garden and she would cut them for me and put them in a glass.

Grandma L died when I was around six. I remember making a shadow box with a deer in it with her - she loved crafts. She quilted and tatted. Many times when we went for a visit we would sit in the living room with her and she would tat while she talked to Mom. She made cross bookmarks - I have a couple still. Her fingers moved so fast! She hardly even seemed to look down while she tatted. I always wanted to learn. Mom gave me one of Grandma's shuttles a few years back all wound up with the kind of thread she always used. Thanks to some good instructions I found on the internet, I taught myself to tat and it is more amazing to me than ever that she could do it so effortlessly!

Enjoy your visit!
Love you,
A

Going camping up at Elder Creek with Grandma and Grandpa would be high on my list. There is nothing in the world like the smell of Grandmas pancakes cooking outside in the great outdoors. It makes my mouth water as I type this. The whole slaughtering the cow thing was wiped from my memoery box until I read little bros comments. Thanks! I needed to remember that! Hi Grandma! I'm sorry that I can't be there. I would love to see you. Love you! Oh and J, you better eat some pancakes for me! Have fun with Grandma and Mom, I'm very jealous! Somebody needs to come and visit me before I have a nervous breakdown!!!!! Love you!

My favorite grandma memory happened 16 years ago this month. I went to a wedding in Mich. and visited my grandma as well, two weeks after I got engaged. (I was living in California and hadn't seen her in 5 years, I think) I showed my grandma Mark's picture and she smiled and said, "he's a very handsome fella." (grandma was 103 at the time!) Two years later, Mark got to meet her, although she wasn't really making any sense at the time...and two months after that she died, at age 105. I'm so thankful that he got to meet her, and give her a gentle kiss on the cheek...she was a wonderful woman. susan

This is a bittersweet question. My MaMa died just one month ago at the age of 92. I was blessed to be with her until the very end. We had a special bond, her and my Mom never really got along, but we were buddies.
Favorite memory? Sitting next to her when I was little watching her do her crossword puzzle from the newspaper, of course it was after the dinner dishes were finished! To this day, I love crosswords.

I will choose my memories from my deceased grandmother, my "granny" is still living and will be 98 next month!
We called my grandmother "Fa" because that's what my oldest sister called her at a very young age. She lived to be 91.
Fa had a Ma&Pa grocery/gas store and when we visited every summer in the afternoon we had "tea party time" and all 4 of us got to choose 1 thing to drink and 1 thing to eat for our party. I fell in love with Dr.Pepper and Moon pies in that store and I also fell in love with my Fa. She was a great cook and my most treasured possessions is her cast iron skillet and her canister set that I now use on a daily basis. Not a day goes by when I use them that I don't remember her fondly and feel the warmth of her love.
Enjoy your visit! She sounds like a hoot! Needless to say, knowing you and your mom, I'm not surprised!

Hi J!
Funny thing...I was looking for prepared polenta at the grocery today - never did find it. Anyway, I asked one of the ladies there where it might be, we got to talking and next thing she is telling me that her grandson was "supposed" to call her Granny but had always called her GiGi and that she loved it!

I like coinky-dinks.
Love,
A

I love Oregon!! It's where I'm from!! I don't have many memories of grandparents. The ones I would tell would not be very nice. So I'll not say anything :)

I almost forgot the best one of all...Grandpa had veins that bulged out of his leg, right leg I think. I beleive they were vericose veins, but the reason they stick out in my memory is because they spelled "SOUP". How funny is that, oh yeah and getting chased by a cow and my pockets "dipping sand" because I was leaning so far as I turned the corner to the campground.

Love ya Grandma!!!

OK! OK! I HAVE TO CONFESS!!!
Grandma...I made M1 an apple pie with store bought crust!!!!
I will blame that on not having grandparents of my own to teach me how to make my own pie crust!! :)
Wish we could have visited more and maybe you could have taught me!
Lucy taught me how to make gravy, and let me tell ya, that was no small task! LOL!
P.S. I did use YOUR recipe for the filling!!
Love you all and hope you are all having a GREAT time!! It's so much fun to have company!!
XOXO
