Yes, they are long overdue.
In fact, they are so long overdue that I don't remember what most of them are, but I'm going to post them anyway. If you have any questions, ask away and I'll have Son #1 give the answers.
Hopefully you're sitting down and have something to drink next to you.
Seriously.
I took over 800 pictures.
Really seriously.
Fear not ..... I am NOT posting them all.
I'm not sure how many I've chosen, but I may have to do it in more than one post.
I don't want Blogger blowing up due to my eagerness to share.
So ..... here we go.
Wait .... I started this post at 7:18 p.m.
I'll have to post what time it is when I'm finally done.
Ummmm ..... if I remember.
Which I probably won't.
Anyway ..... may I present ..... Madrid, Spain!
Son #1 and me .... I forget where, but it was pretty!
Don Quixote and Sancho Panza (Google "Man of La Mancha")
Ummmm .... I really have no idea why that was there because he doesn't look very Spanish. At least, not to me.
Being a tourist is hard work:
Self-explanatory:
This is a really cool "restaurant market" that has a lot of different food "booths". It was packed in the evenings.
Part of the military parade from national hispanic day, or something like that. It's the biggest holiday in Spain.
Right behind these policemen were the president of Spain and his wife (in a limo, not on motorcycles .... don't get crazy). I missed the photo opp. Story of my life:
The Madrid subway:
This was a really good, really tiny restaurant. We ate upstairs, where there were 4 tables. This is looking down the stairs:
This is shot from the stairs of the upstairs:
This is one of the major plazas at night. Kids came to roller blade for show (and more importantly, for money) every night:
This was part of the military "show" during the parade:
Ditto:
Ummmmm .... yeah.....:
I just thought this was cool:
And I thought he was cute:
Parade:
Madrid seems to have an obsession with ham. Seriously. It was everywhere. And then there was this ..... a ham museum. Yes. Really:
This was the restaurant market, at night:
This is the oldest restaurant in the world. I'm not lying. Look it up:
This is inside, going down to the cellar:
Son #1, at our table in the cellar of the world's oldest restaurant:
The food was good and the place was pretty cool. Even for an old joint:
Said "ham obsession":
These are the doors to a nunnery that sells cookies to the public, even though every nun in there has taken a vow of silence. The cookies are supposedly awesome. I wouldn't know, as the note left on the door explained that they were closed that week (the ONE week of the year!!! Well, I don't know for sure that it's the ONE week of the year, but I bet it is). Oh, the note also gave an emergency number you could call. Not sure what constitutes an emergency for a nunnery (except not being able to buy their cookies) ..... or, more interestingly, who the heck would answer the phone in a nunnery full of mute nuns (or why there would even be a phone):
Inside the restaurant market:
OK, that's all I'm posting on this post. I don't want to be on the national news tomorrow for bringing down Blogger .... kind of like that Wikki guy.
Stay tuned for Part 2 .....

love the mute nun concepts...your ponderings made me smile. Did son #1 try out the restaurants beforehand and take you to his favorites, or did you pick from Fromer's or something?
Love the pics, and that you just take shots becuase they were amusing/interesting/different, etc.
Susan .... Are you kidding?! My children don't go out to eat on their own dime! They investigate places and then wait for me to come and foot the bill. Son #1, being Son #1, knew all about the restaurants before I got there.
Glad you like the pics .... and the ponderings. :)
