No. Thing.
Every food service site, restaurant and store is closed.
In one of the largest airports in the country.
Which totally sucks for all of the people who are stranded there.
One would think that there's about 15 feet of snow in Houston.
Wouldn't one?
Ummmmmm ..... not so much.
Not even a drop of rain.
Our flight into the airport tonight (which arrived around 6:00-ish) was either THE last flight allowed to arrive or one of the last flights.
Continental Airlines stopped all flights at 3:00 this afternoon.
With nary a flake of snow or a drop of rain to be seen.
I kid you not.
And I wonder ..... how many millions of dollars did Continental lose today, all because they may have jumped the gun a teensy weensy bit?
Every single school within a hundred mile radius (or larger) is closed tomorrow.
"Snow days" in Houston and the surrounding area are kind of like the odds of your 2 year old letting you go to the bathroom without sticking his/her fingers under the door, begging to be let in....pretty dang unlikely.
So for those of us who have lived in colder climates ..... you know, places where it does actually snow, it's hilarious to watch everyone running to and fro in a complete tizzy.
And it's even funnier to know that their tizziness is based solely on the reports of men/women who don't usually have the reputation of hitting the proverbial nail on the head when it comes to approaching weather systems.
So of course the big story of the day has been this approaching storm. And all of the resulting
And the rumors ...... oh the rumors. We were hearing them all morning .... and we were in South Carolina! Continental was canceling all flights ..... turned into ..... the Houston airport is totally closing at noon. Fortunately many of us had access to the internet ..... and the phone numbers of the airlines for which we all had tickets, so we could poo-poo the rumors ..... and the ensuing panic.
Oh the tizziness.
It was great.
I have lived here for 20 years this summer.
Tell south Texans that it might snow tomorrow .... and then just sit back and enjoy.
But tell them that a hurricane is on its way ..... and these people get down to work! It's highly impressive.
So anyway, we made it home .... thankfully.
Just in time to be chest-deep in snow tomorrow.
Or so rumor has it.
Thanks to all of you who commented and answered my question ..... you each get an A+ for participation. There were 14 comments ..... which makes me wonder if there are only 14 Peeps out there?
If so, you are 14 great Peeps!
It is now time for me to go to bed.
A day of stressing about incoming blizzards, flight cancellations, airport closings and the shutting down
I.
Am.
Spent.
I hope that I'll be able to dig my way out tomorrow to let you all know that I'm still here.
IF I'm still here.
I should probably Google ..... "how to make a snow cave" before I go to bed.
Because .... you never know.
Do you?
Happy Friday, Peeps ..... to all 14 of you!!!
:)
