What Goes Around ......

...... comes around.

Or at least that's what five of my kids will say ...... when they learn about this.
Sigh.

Our children got a few things from both Jim and me.
Some good things.  Some ..... not so good.

Six children inherited my eye sight.
And thus six wear contacts.

Five out of eight of our children ......  Ha!  OK, who among you stopped at that?  Who thought, "Eight?!  WTH?  Eight?!!"
That was just to see if you were paying attention.
I do not have eight children.
Wait ..............  ok, I'm OK.  I thought for a moment that I was going to hurl.
Whew!

OK, back to business.
Six.
Ahhh, yes.  Five of the six children inherited Jim's teeth.
Poor things.
Five of the six have done braces.  And two of them had them twice.
Plus those "spacers" that go in the roof of their mouth and have a little torture device key,  that you put in the spacer and then turn, so that the spacer grows a bit wider.  With every turn of the key.  I hated that key.
I felt like a guard at Guantanomo Bay.  KInd of.

All five have very pretty, straight teeth now.
Thanks to their wonderful orthodontist.
And to their mother.
Who turned the key.

Anyway, I'm sure they'll all be quite gleeful to hear ...... that I may need braces.
OMG, yes, you read that right.
And yes, I am 52.
Fifty two and braces?
Really?!
That is SO way past cute ..... or even normal.

So here's my problem.
I have straight teeth.  I've always had straight teeth.  Not sure which side I can attribute that to, but I'm grateful.  I saw what my children went through ...... .

I never gave my teeth much thought.  I mean, I take care of them.  I brush and floss.
OK, I floss regularly when my dental appointment is coming up in a week.
So at least I'm doing that.

And then a few months ago I started biting my tongue.
And my check.
And the inside of my lips and checks.
Not just once, but over and over and over again.  Almost every time I eat something.
And it's getting old.

And I wondered if I was going crazy.
Every day.  Several times a day.
I was just getting ready to call our orthodontist (the kids' orthodontia) last week, when I realized that I had a dental appointment today.  Good timing.  :)

It seems that I am as "beautiful inside as well as outside".
That's a direct quote.
From my dentist.
Who then told me that I need to make an appointment with an orthodontist.  Who still owes me for all of the vacations and American Girl dolls my family provided to his ...... through orthodontics.  :)
So I'll be going the first week of October, unless they have a cancellation before them.

It seems that my bite has changed.
Of course it has.

So there you go.
That's the absolute end of things I have to tell you.

Except for this:  I'm going back to Kenya in November.  I haven't been since .... well, you probably know since when.
At first I wasn't that enthusiastic.  But I am now.  It's time.

So now I think you know everything that I know.
Mostly.
Or maybe, minutely.

Whatever.
Have a great rest of your week!

:)

my husband had braces when I met him - he was 37, not quite 52, but still "older" than the norm. Not ever sure why he had them (we didn't start dating until 5 years later and come to think of it it never came up). I think it is so great you are going back to Kenya. was hoping to return to Uganda myself this februrary, but not working out with the kiddos school schedules. What will you be doing? I hope you will return with lots of pictures etc!

Maybe you can have the invisible type braces?!? The ones like the teeth whitening trays! Much more grown up!
I had the old fashioned kind when I was in my early 30's!!
You can do this!!

I'm 42 and have been wearing braces for a year now.....along with my 11 year old twins! I keep telling my husband he's the odd man out! My bite was off and I had terrible TMJ. I had them as a teen as well......It will all be worth it in the end! :-)
