Son #2 and Jim. One of the "boys" (all 4) all-time favorite past-times.
So, I leave tomorrow for Parents' Weekend. I really didn't think I'd be going. Neither did Son #2. But his DI asked me to re-think it, and so I did. And then Son #2 called me on Saturday. And on Sunday. And we had 2 good conversations.
Don't get me wrong, he still hates it, but not with as much venom. He was calm when we spoke. He was calm when I reiterated what I had been telling him through snail mail --- he's going back next semester. He was calm .... and I was surprised. But consistent.
And when he asked on Saturday if I was coming, I said, "I'll see what I can do." I'd already bought my ticket.
So when he asked again on Sunday, "Are you coming to Parents' Weekend?, I said "Yes. I'm coming". And he said ..............
"I'm glad."
And so was I.
And I told him so.
In other news ..... how pathetic is this?
D and my mom were talking about baseball last night. And I asked them what they were talking about.
Them: "The World Series."
Me: "What World Series?"
Them: "This World Series."
Me: "What?! The World Series is on NOW?!"
Them: after a moment of looking at me like I was mentally challenged ..... "Yes."
Me: "Who's playing?!!!"
How could I not know that the World Series is going on? Or rather, was going on. We watched the last game tonight. Yay Phillies.
Hey ..... at least I'm a few steps ahead of my grandmother.
She doesn't know who's running for president.
Seriously.
I don't know when I'll be posing again, as I won't be home until Sunday.
So I shall have to leave you with a question.
Let's see .........
Oh ...... here we go .........
What is your favorite Halloween memory?
I don't know what my favorite is .... but I could tell you about the year that I was about 6 and my parents were racists.
Wait ....... no, I can't tell you about it. But if you send me an e-mail privately, I just might.
:)
Discuss amongst yourselves...........
UPDATE:
OK, My mom is taking great offense that I called her a racist. WHATEVAH!
Actually, she is not, nor ever was a racist. I don't know who's idea that Halloween costumes' idea was ...... all I know is that is was NOT mine and I cried a lot.

Every Halloween is my favorite Halloween memory! I LOVE Halloween. I always made my own costumes (from about age 13 on) and now I make almost all of the boys' costumes, or usually do something homemade for them, like doing their makeup or hair or putting together the pieces to make the costume. I just love doing that and taking their pictures and looking back at them over the years!
Oh, and I bet your mom is THRILLED that you posted she was a racist! LOL
Praying for you and P to have a GREAT weekend of reconnection.
Love,
Melanie
Hey Janine,
Have a safe trip! I hope you and Son #2 have a wonderful time together!
Favorite Halloween memory...I'm really coming up blank here. We have pictures of my sister and I dressed up--maybe 7 years old, so I know we went trick or treating.
I have vague (but pleasant) memories of going trick or treating when I was about 3 years old--it being dark out, and it being one of those kind of cool, blustery New England fall evenings.
Well, that was boring. :) Ah well. Have a great weekend!
Praying for your week end. May He do exceedingly, abundantly more than we could ever ask for you this week end. I am grateful that he said he was glad that you were coming. No favorite Halloween memories. Working tomorrow night at our church's alternative to Halloween. Blessings on your day and week end.
Janine,
Have a safe trip and I hope it is filled with great experiences for both of you.
I wont call this my favorite Halloween memory but the first that comes to mind.
One year I was working until the last minute to finish sewing my kids costumes. As I was passing out candy I kept noticing the weird looks I was getting from people. Near the end of the night I happened to catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I had used the collar of my blouse as a pin cushion when I was working on the costumes and they were attached.
I bet none of the parent let their kids eat any of the candy they got at my house.
Enjoy your weekend.

I hope you and P have a nice Parents weekend! No favorite Halloween memories either. But there was that one year that I babysat for you and Jim when you dressed up like Oprah! That was tooo dang funny! I still have the pics to prove it! I need to look for those. Love you tons J!
I have been thinking about you a lot today. I was over in your area and thought about stopping by but I'm so behind on everything I figured i needed to get home and write. But I still need to write. Am not doing very well on my deadline!!!! And leaving manana... so you have me very curious about that Halloween story! I want to see a picture! :) I don't even know a favorite memory but I only remember two. One I was a ghost with a big white sheet over me, and I couldn't breathe. I also have nightmares about those plastic masks they use to make with costumes!! My fave I think was when I dressed up as Pippi Longstocking and used coathangars to make my braids go out sideways. Yep I was wearing braids even back then! :) Maybe one day I'll try the coathangers for the Pippi look. Ha ha! ;) Wouldn't that be a hoot in church? That makes me want to do it just to be a freak and have everyone wonder what the heck is wrong with that person?! ha ha ha ha! I'm cracking myself up. ;)
Lots of halloween memories. I love Halloween! One favorite that comes to mind is when Dad and C came over and Dad carved pumpkins with the girls and "grandma" made baked pumpkin seeds!! We all made cookies and caramel apples too! WE have lots of pics from this particular weekend too! Great memories for our girls!
XOXO M1 and K1
late reading this post, so this response is late too...favorite halloween memory? can't remember back that far...but recent memories include lots of GREAT costumes (if I do say so myself) and tears. A couple years ago Brianna wanted to be Ariel, and I made her a great mermaid costume, complete with red wig. She loved it until Mark saw her and said she was cute. then she hid behind a door, and wouldn't let him see her. We went up to church for trunk or treat, (she hid behind my back to get to the car so Mark wouldn't see her) but she wouldn't get out of the car...finally walked behind me the whole night, until she took the wig off...The next year she wanted to be Hannah Montana. when I asked what Hannah would look like, she said a sparkly top and long straight yellow hair. She didn't want a wig that year (thank God), but wanted me to straighten her hair and then spray it yellow. I straightened it (it took an hour, but hey, I'm a great mom), then sprayed on the "yellow" hair spray, which was wet, and it promptly re-curled her hair...many tears later she got in the car in her sparkly top, and went to trunk or treat as hannah montana's friend. Oh yeah, I forgot the year she wanted to be a princess. When I asked her which one, she said snow white, so i got her the snow white costume (not handmade...I never buy a store bought costume, but this time I did, so it would be right)...when I got out the costume on halloween she said, "not that princess...the one in the blue dress" (cinderella)Oy! Good news...no tears this year...she was Cleopatra, and the straightened hair stayed brown, so it stayed straight. yeah! susan
